Amethyst is the purple form of Quartz.
2. What does Amethyst mean and where did the word originate?
It is from Greek and is derived from amethystos (anti) + methyein (to be drunk) from wine.
3. What causes the variation of color in Amethyst?
Traces of Manganese cause the color, traces of iron produce the depth of color.

5. Is it true that Amethyst can become Citrine?
Yes, when heated to as little as 250 degrees farenheit it becomes Citrine.
